**Chennai:** India showcased their dominance over Bangladesh in the first Test match in Chennai, securing a commanding 227-run lead after the end of Day 2.

India, resuming their first innings on 144/6, amassed a formidable total of 376 runs. R. Ashwin played a key role with a magnificent 113 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed a valuable 86. The duo shared a crucial 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

The Bangladeshi bowlers struggled to contain the Indian onslaught, with Taskin Ahmed emerging as the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh’s batting faltered, collapsing to a paltry 149 runs. The Indian bowlers were relentless, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack, bagging four wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed two wickets.

The Bangladeshi batting order failed to provide any resistance, with Shakib Al Hasan’s 32 runs being the highest score.

India started their second innings strongly, but lost Rohit Sharma cheaply for 5 runs. Yashaswi Jaiswal, who was looking good at 10 runs, also departed early.

Despite these early losses, India will be confident of extending their lead on Day 3 and securing a victory in the first Test.
