**Chennai, India:** India continued their strong performance in the first Test match against Bangladesh, putting the visitors on the backfoot at the end of Day 2 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. At lunch, Bangladesh were reeling at 26/3, still trailing by a massive 350 runs.
The Indian bowlers, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and Akashdeep, were relentless in the morning session, quickly picking up three wickets. Bumrah dismissed Shadma Islam early on, while Akashdeep claimed two wickets in one over, sending both Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haq back to the pavilion. The Indian pace attack proved too much for the Bangladesh batters, who struggled to adapt to the conditions.
Earlier, India had declared their innings at 376, adding 37 runs to their overnight total. Ravichandran Ashwin led the charge, scoring a magnificent 113, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed a crucial 86. The duo shared a vital 195-run partnership, putting India firmly in control.
However, Bangladesh had a strong start to the day with Hasan Mahmud taking the first wicket of the day, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul in India.
The remaining Indian batters, however, put up a strong resistance, with Akashdeep especially showing his resilience with a quickfire 17. Tasin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, claiming three wickets in the day.
India will be looking to capitalise on their dominant position on Day 3, aiming for an early declaration and a shot at victory. Bangladesh will need to regroup and find a way to salvage some pride in the match.
