Fri Sep 20 03:48:14 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates Day 1 of 1st Test Against Bangladesh, Ashwin Hits Century

**Chennai:** India made a strong start to the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scoring 339 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of Day 1. Veteran off-spinner R. Ashwin starred with his sixth Test century, a crucial knock that helped India recover from a shaky start.

Bangladesh, who recently defeated Pakistan in a Test series, won the toss and opted to bowl first. They were initially successful in putting pressure on the Indian batting line-up, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in the first session.

However, a crucial partnership between Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal stabilized India’s innings. Pant, returning to Test cricket after a serious car accident, scored 39 runs before being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud.

Jaiswal went on to score a half-century, but it was the late surge of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja that really put India in control. The duo shared a 195-run partnership, with Ashwin reaching his century in 108 balls and Jadeja remaining unbeaten on 86.

Ashwin’s century is his second at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and also his sixth overall in Test cricket. This partnership also broke a 20-year-old record for the highest seventh-wicket partnership in a Test between India and Bangladesh.

The Indian team will be hoping to build on this strong foundation and set a challenging target for Bangladesh on Day 2.

**Here’s a quick recap of Day 1:**

* **India**: 339/6 (Ashwin 102*, Jadeja 86*)
* **Bangladesh**: Hasan Mahmud took 3 wickets

* **Day 2**: India resumes their innings at 339/6

The second Test match of the series will be played in Kanpur, starting on October 1st.
