**Muswellbrook, NSW** – Jem Cassar-Daley, daughter of renowned country music star Troy Cassar-Daley, performed at the Cultural Spectacular in Muswellbrook, NSW last weekend. The free event, hosted by MACH Energy Mount Pleasant Operation and the Aboriginal Community Development Fund, drew a large crowd to the Muswellbrook showground, transforming it into a vibrant festival atmosphere.
Cassar-Daley, who admitted to being called a “nepo baby” due to her father’s success, emphasized her desire to carve her own path in the music industry. “I think it’s just fun to be able to pave my own way,” she said, adding that while she loves country music, she enjoys exploring different genres and playing her own music.
The event showcased a diverse lineup of performers, including ARIA award-winning Arrernte/Gurindji artist Dan Sultan, who debuted his new song “Do You See Me”. Cassar-Daley also performed a few new songs, including “Simon Says” and “Kiss Me Like You’re Leaving,” receiving positive feedback from the audience.
The event, held in the Upper Hunter region, which has recently seen some earthquakes, celebrated community and featured stalls, a jumping castle, and two stages of entertainment. Comedian and musician Isaac Compton served as emcee, while local Indigenous performers, including Uncle Glen Morris, Aunty Jean Hands, Dr James Wilson-Miller, and Uncle Richie Lawton from Budbudda Dreaming, also took the stage.
Cassar-Daley expressed her appreciation for the vibrant community spirit in Muswellbrook, where her father has performed several times in the past. “It’s hard to get the same foot traffic and the same amount of gigs as they do in the major cities,” she said, highlighting the importance of supporting regional artists.
The Cultural Spectacular, held on Wanaruah/Wonnarua country, celebrated the strong Indigenous presence in the region, with a significant number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people attending the event. Cassar-Daley expressed her joy in seeing the community come together to enjoy storytelling, music, and culture.
