**New York, NY** – In an exclusive interview, “Transformers One” director Josh Cooley delved into the comedic chaos of the film’s pivotal transformation scene. The scene, which occurs mid-way through the film, sees the main characters – who have never transformed before – finally obtain the necessary “cogs” to unlock their robotic potential.
Cooley, drawing inspiration from his childhood experience with Transformers toys, wanted to capture the clumsy, often frustrating reality of mastering those complex transformations. “They were just kind of sitting around on the ground half-transformed because they were actually pretty hard to do,” he recalled. “So I thought it would be fun to actually see our characters struggle kind of with the same way that I struggled with the toy.”
The scene takes on an added layer of hilarity as the characters struggle with their new powers while under attack, tumbling down a steep hill. Cooley explained that he was inspired by the chaotic “cheese rolling” competition held annually in England, using the incline to heighten the difficulty of transforming.
“It’s a real danger that they’re in,” he explained. “You can hear the sound and the blasters from the weapons being shot at them.” This element of danger, juxtaposed with the clumsy attempts at transformation, creates a dynamic that is both humorous and exciting.
“Transformers One” is an animated origin story exploring the early days of Optimus Prime and Megatron. The film is set to hit theaters later this year.
