Fri Sep 20 12:52:41 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud Makes History with Maiden Five-Wicket Haul in India

**Chennai, India:** Bangladesh seamer Hasan Mahmud etched his name in history on Friday, becoming the first ever bowler from his country to claim a five-wicket haul in a Test match on Indian soil. The young pacer, playing only his fourth Test, achieved this feat during the second morning of the first Test in Chennai.

Mahmud, who had already impressed on day one with the dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, returned after lunch to claim his fourth wicket – Rishabh Pant. This feat made him only the second visiting bowler in the 21st century, after Dale Steyn, to take four wickets on the first day of a Test in India.

His fifth wicket arrived after a strong partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin had threatened to rescue India’s innings. However, Mahmud returned towards the end of the innings and dismissed Jasprit Bumrah, thus completing his maiden five-fer on Indian soil.

Throughout the innings, Mahmud showcased his control of length and swing, making him a constant threat to the Indian batsmen. His impressive performance follows his first five-wicket haul against Pakistan last month, where he helped Bangladesh secure a 2-0 series victory.

Mahmud’s fifer, which ended with figures of 5-83, ensured India fell short of the 400-run mark despite a century from Ravichandran Ashwin. He was assisted by Taskin Ahmed, who took three wickets, along with single wickets for Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nahid Rana.

Hasan Mahmud’s historic achievement has set a new benchmark for Bangladesh cricket and promises a bright future for the talented young bowler.
