Thu Sep 19 07:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Dartmouth Student Newspaper Manager Sentenced to Prison for Theft

**HANOVER, NH** – A former office manager for Dartmouth College’s student newspaper, The Dartmouth, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for stealing over $223,000 from the organization. Nicole Chambers, who worked for the paper from 2012 to 2021, pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges in April.

Prosecutors revealed that Chambers illicitly transferred funds from the newspaper’s bank account, debit card, and online payment accounts to her personal accounts to finance what they described as a “high lifestyle,” including travel expenses and hotel stays.

Chambers’ attorney argued for a lighter sentence, citing her lack of prior criminal history and mental health struggles during the period of the theft. He also claimed that imprisonment would prevent her from earning the money needed to repay the stolen funds.

Despite the defense’s arguments, the court imposed the 15-month sentence. Chambers is now facing the consequences of her actions, highlighting the importance of responsible financial management within organizations.
