**KUCHING, Malaysia -** Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has called for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the delivery of social security benefits in Malaysia. Speaking at an international conference on social security management in Kuching on Thursday, Fadillah highlighted the potential of AI to improve efficiency and accuracy in distributing aid through the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Socso).
“AI can help us identify new methods in line with technological changes and make administrative systems more efficient,” Fadillah stated. However, he also emphasized the need for strong data protection and cybersecurity measures to combat potential threats from hackers and fraudulent transactions.
“Hackers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, so we need to stay a step ahead,” he said. “AI can be beneficial if used properly but can also pose a threat if used unethically.”
Fadillah emphasized that AI can improve fraud detection, administrative efficiency, and the accuracy of distributing social security benefits. He noted that EPF and Socso are already implementing digital services, including online account management and flexible withdrawal options, to improve accessibility.
“By harnessing these technologies, we aim to provide better support and security for all, ensuring that our social security systems are modern and inclusive,” Fadillah concluded. He stressed the importance of ongoing reforms and digital enhancements to ensure the robustness and effectiveness of the social security system.
The conference, organized by Universiti Utara Malaysia’s Social Security Management Centre of Excellence, brought together experts from various fields to discuss the future of social security management in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
