Fri Sep 20 06:37:06 UTC 2024: ## Australia Extend ODI Winning Streak to 13 with Dominant Victory over England

**Nottingham, England:** Travis Head’s career-best 154 not out propelled Australia to a convincing seven-wicket victory over England in the first ODI at Trent Bridge on Thursday, extending their winning streak to an impressive 13 matches.

Head, who was crucial in Australia’s World Cup final victory against India last year, survived a tough early chance before unleashing a blistering assault on the English attack. He smashed 20 fours and five sixes in his 129-ball innings, putting on a crucial 148-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne. Labuschagne had earlier shone with the ball, taking 3/39 as England’s score slumped against Australia’s slow bowlers.

Australia chased down a target of 316 with six overs to spare, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

“It’s nice to get a hundred, it was a good night at the office,” said Head, who was named player of the match.

The victory continues Australia’s dominance in ODI cricket, with their current streak only surpassed by Ricky Ponting’s 2003 World Cup-winning side, which recorded a remarkable 21 consecutive victories.

This success comes despite the absence of three senior fast bowlers, with Pat Cummins rested from the tour and Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood missing the first match due to illness.

England’s coach, Marcus Trescothick, acknowledged Head’s destructive abilities, highlighting his ability to create room for himself even against deliveries aimed at middle and off stump.

The series continues on Sunday at Lord’s.
