Thu Sep 19 23:48:14 UTC 2024: ## Australia Clinches Dominant Victory in First ODI Against England

**Nottingham, England -** Australia, missing several key players due to injuries, secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over England in the first one-day international at Trent Bridge on Thursday. The win puts the world champions 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Travis Head stole the show for the Australians, smashing a career-best 154 not out, the highest score by an Australian in an ODI against England. He and Marnus Labuschagne, who remained unbeaten on 77, shared an unbroken 148-run partnership, smashing the target of 316 with six overs to spare.

Earlier, England had posted a respectable 315 thanks to Ben Duckett’s 95 and a half-century from Will Jacks. However, Australia’s spinners proved to be the difference, with Labuschagne taking 3-39 and Adam Zampa claiming 3-53.

“We were put under pressure early on, but the way our bowlers fought back was fantastic,” said Australian captain Mitchell Marsh. He praised Labuschagne’s performance, calling it “a forced change” due to the injury of Ben Dwarshuis.

England captain Harry Brook acknowledged that his side hadn’t executed well with the ball, struggling against the Australian spin attack. “We did what we said we would do, putting the Aussies under pressure, but we just couldn’t execute with the ball,” Brook said.

The series continues at Headingley on Saturday, with Australia looking to further cement their dominance in the series.
