**Srinagar:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive election rally in Srinagar on Thursday, urging Kashmiris to vote for the BJP and ensure the “political sunset” of the Congress, NC, and PDP. Modi, in his maiden election rally in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, spoke in Kashmiri, highlighting the BJP’s commitment to restoring statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
He accused the three dynastic parties of “stomping over Jamhooriyat and Kashmiriyat” for their own political interests, and claimed they had inflicted “wounds” on the region for years. He blamed them for the decline of education, economic stagnation, and the fostering of fear.
Modi showcased the BJP’s achievements in the last five years, including improved infrastructure, educational opportunities, and the restoration of peace and normalcy. He spoke about the increased participation in elections, the return of tourism, and the development of infrastructure projects like AIIMS and new schools.
He announced a slew of promises for the region, including Rs 10,000 annual assistance to farmers, Rs 18,000 annual assistance to the woman head of every family, and an enhanced health insurance plan. He also pledged free electricity for all families under the PM Surya Ghar Yojna.
Modi urged voters to break voting records in the upcoming phases, reiterating his government’s commitment to development and empowerment. He criticized the previous regimes for neglecting the needs of minorities, particularly Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs.
The Prime Minister’s visit has sparked significant political buzz in Jammu and Kashmir, as the state gears up for the first assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370. The BJP, along with its allies, is campaigning on a platform of development, good governance, and a return to normalcy. The Congress, NC, and PDP are expected to present a united front against the BJP, highlighting their focus on restoring autonomy and addressing the region’s long-standing grievances.
