**Colombo, September 19:** In a bid to strengthen Sri Lanka’s global competitiveness in engineering services, the Export Development Board (EDB) has joined forces with the University of Moratuwa’s Engineering Faculty. This strategic alliance, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 4th, aims to bridge the gap between academia and entrepreneurship.

The two-year program focuses on supporting entrepreneurs in Research and Development (R&D) projects, with a particular emphasis on improving service quality for international markets. This collaborative effort will leverage the combined expertise of academia and the private sector, driving industry advancements and providing students with crucial hands-on experience.

Two projects are already underway: Venora Lanka Power Panels Ltd. is developing IoT-enabled power distribution systems, while Sentinel Systems focuses on Advanced Building Management Systems. Both initiatives aim to reduce energy consumption and costs by providing users with real-time data insights into their electricity usage.

This partnership is expected to generate impactful business solutions for Sri Lanka’s construction, renewable energy, and engineering sectors. The collaboration is also anticipated to inspire new ideas and contribute significantly to the country’s renewable energy development.

The EDB is committed to fostering stronger industry-academia partnerships, facilitating connections between businesses and university research teams to tackle complex challenges through practical applications. This strategic alliance represents a significant step towards enhancing Sri Lanka’s global standing and stimulating further industry expansion.
