Fri Sep 20 06:37:24 UTC 2024: ## Tirupati Temple Prasad Controversy: Ghee Adulteration Allegations Spark Political Row

**Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh:** A major controversy has erupted over allegations of adulteration in the ghee used to prepare the famed Tirupati laddu, a prasad offered to devotees at the Sri Venkateswara temple. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has accused the previous YSR Congress government, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, of using animal fat and fish oil instead of pure ghee.

Naidu’s claims, which he made during a legislative party meeting, have been supported by a lab report released by the Andhra government. The report, conducted by NDDB CALF, confirmed the presence of beef tallow, lard, and fish oil in the ghee.

TDP leader Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy, who made the report public, called the use of animal fat in the prasad an “affront to our Lord and Hindu religion.” He accused the former TTD chairman and other officials of committing a “grave sin” for allegedly using adulterated ingredients.

The YSR Congress has vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them as “malicious” and politically motivated. YSR Congress leader and former TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy stated that Naidu was “stooping to any level for political gain” and had damaged the “sanctity of the divine temple.”

The YSR Congress also pointed to a June statement by the then TTD executive officer, appointed by Naidu, who acknowledged that a few batches of ghee had been found adulterated with vegetable fats. They accused Naidu of “politicising the issue” and creating a controversy.

The Andhra Pradesh Congress, meanwhile, has slammed both the TDP and YSR Congress for their accusations and has called for a high-level inquiry into the matter.

The Tirupati laddu, a popular offering at the temple, holds significant religious importance for devotees. The revelation of possible adulteration has sparked outrage among many Hindus, who consider cows and their products sacred. The controversy has also raised concerns about the quality control measures employed by the TTD, which prides itself on the purity of its offerings.

The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and the outcome will likely have a significant impact on the religious sentiments of devotees and the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh.
