Thu Sep 19 00:27:00 UTC 2024: ## Dinamo Zagreb Fires Coach After Humiliating Bayern Defeat

Dinamo Zagreb has parted ways with head coach Sergej Jakirovic after the Croatian side suffered a record-breaking 9-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday. This marked the club’s heaviest ever loss and the first time a team has conceded nine goals in the tournament’s history.

Jakirovic, who led Dinamo to a domestic league and cup double last season, was appointed head coach last summer. However, the club’s decision to relieve him of his duties comes after a dismal start to the Champions League campaign.

The club’s statement cited a “mutual termination of the contract” with Jakirovic, thanking him for his contributions and wishing him well in his future endeavors. Sandro Perkovic, a former member of the coaching staff, will take over as interim head coach until a permanent replacement is found.

The news comes on the heels of Celtic’s impressive 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in their opening Champions League match. The Scottish side are set to face Dinamo on December 10th, with their odds of reaching the last 16 boosted significantly after their dominant performance.
