**Bournemouth, UK -** A London man has been sentenced to 12 months in jail after he drove his car into two police officers in Bournemouth on New Year’s Day. Yussuf Mohamed Mire, 35, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1st when police were called to reports of a man appearing intoxicated in a grey Mercedes on Old Christchurch Road. When officers approached Mire and asked him to turn off his engine, he accelerated forward, mounting the pavement and performing a U-turn.

Two officers pursued Mire on foot, with one attempting to pull him out of the car. Mire then reversed the car into the officers, knocking them out of the way before speeding off through a pedestrianised area. He eventually abandoned his vehicle in Hillside Drive in Christchurch and took a taxi back to London.
