**Redland Bay, QLD** – The Charlie Buckler Memorial Sporting Fields in Redland Bay have undergone a major transformation, receiving a $6.5 million upgrade that benefits local sports clubs and the wider community. The project, a joint effort between Redland City Council, the Australian and Queensland Governments, saw the construction of a new multi-use clubhouse, field realignment, improved drainage, new practice cricket nets, additional car parking, and various other upgrades.

The new clubhouse, a highlight of the project, features modern amenities including changing rooms, referees’ rooms, a canteen, and a maintenance shed. It is designed to cater to the needs of the tenant clubs, the Redland Bay Cyclones Rugby Union Club, Redlands Sharks Cricket Club, and Redland Bay Tennis Club, while also offering a multi-purpose space for community groups.

“These upgrades are a game-changer for the tenant clubs, offering a modern and functional space to support their activities,” said Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell. “We’re excited to be opening this new clubhouse on the eve of the summer cricket season.”

The project also included improvements to the site’s infrastructure, including a larger dog off-leash area, improved pathways, landscaped gardens, new seating, and an upgraded site entry on Boundary Street. An additional 81 car parks were added, bringing the total to 147 and addressing parking congestion during events.

Division 6 Councillor Julie Talty highlighted the project as a testament to the commitment of all levels of government to supporting community initiatives. “This is a wonderful example of collaboration, creating an extraordinary outcome that will be enjoyed by generations of Redlanders,” she said.

The upgraded facilities are expected to boost participation in sport within the community, providing a welcoming and modern environment for players and spectators alike. The project was funded through the Department of Health and Aged Care’s Female Facilities and Water Safety Stream Program, the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program, and Redland City Council.
