**Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire** – BAFTA winner Sally Wainwright, known for her critically acclaimed work on “Happy Valley” and “Gentleman Jack,” is set to bring her unique storytelling to a brand new comedy-drama series, “Riot Women,” slated for release on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and BritBox International in the U.S. and Canada.

The series follows five women who form a punk rock band, “Riot Women,” as they navigate life’s challenges – demanding jobs, aging parents, failed relationships, and the inevitable changes of menopause. The band becomes their outlet, a platform for them to confront societal expectations and embrace their individuality.

“Riot Women” boasts an impressive cast led by Joanna Scanlan (“After Love,” “The Thick of It”), Rosalie Craig (“Moonflower Murders,” “Serpent Queen”), Tamsin Greig (“Sexy Beast,” “The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin”), Lorraine Ashbourne (“Sherwood,” “Alma’s Not Normal”), and Amelia Bullmore (“The Buccaneers,” “Vienna Blood”).

The series also features a star-studded supporting cast including Anne Reid (“The Sixth Commandment”), Sue Johnston (“The Royle Family”), Peter Davison (“Doctor Who”), Claire Skinner (“Outnumbered”), and Angel Coulby (“Merlin”), among others.

Wainwright, who serves as the series’ lead director, has expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “I think I am more excited about this than anything else I have ever written. Ever. Oh my God. We have five of the most fabulous actresses on the planet playing the Riot Women. It’s scarily exciting.”

“Riot Women” promises to be a riotous and emotionally resonant exploration of female friendships, the power of music, and the resilience of women in the face of societal pressures and aging. The series is set to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK next year with a simultaneous release on BritBox International in the U.S. and Canada.
