**Feilding, New Zealand** – Arran Trust has issued a recall for specific batches of its unpasteurized raw drinking milk sold between August 23 and September 17. The milk was distributed through a vending machine at the Arran Farm Milk Shop in Feilding.
The recall was prompted by routine testing, which indicated potential contamination with Campylobacter, a foodborne bacteria that can cause serious illness.
“This raw milk should not be consumed,” stated Jenny Bishop, acting deputy director-general of New Zealand Food Safety. “Return it to Arran Farm for a refund or, if that’s not possible, throw it out.”
Bishop emphasized the inherent risks associated with raw milk, which lacks the pasteurization process that eliminates harmful bacteria. “You can also heat the raw milk until just boiling for one minute to kill any bacteria present before drinking it,” she added.
Symptoms of Campylobacter infection include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, headache, and body aches. Anyone who has consumed the recalled milk and experiences these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider or call Healthline for free advice.
New Zealand Food Safety will be working with Arran Trust to investigate the source of the contamination and implement measures to prevent future occurrences. The organization also reiterates its strong recommendation against raw milk consumption for vulnerable individuals, including pregnant women, older adults, babies, young children, and those with compromised immune systems.
