Thu Sep 19 08:46:58 UTC 2024: ## F.Sc. Marks Changes Stir Concerns About MDCAT Fairness in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
**Abbottabad:** A recent increase in the total marks for the F.Sc. examination in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) has sparked concerns about the fairness of the upcoming Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
The change, which increased the total marks from 1100 to 1200, has left students and parents anxious about its impact on the MDCAT merit list. Parents have penned letters to the governor and relevant authorities seeking clarification and a resolution before the September 22 exam date.
The issue stems from the discrepancy between the total marks in KPK and other regions, including Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Kashmir, which retain the 1100 mark system. This disparity creates an uneven playing field for students, potentially impacting their ranking on the MDCAT merit list.
Education experts have pointed out that the change in total marks significantly alters percentage calculations, potentially affecting the MDCAT aggregate score and admissions into public medical colleges.
While Coordinator to PM on Health Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath has assured that the MDCAT will be conducted fairly and transparently, concerns remain.
To address these concerns, experts have recommended standardizing the total marks across all regions, adjusting percentage calculation methodologies, and ensuring transparent communication regarding any changes. Implementing these measures before the MDCAT exam is crucial to maintain fairness and equity in the admissions process.
