**Bengaluru:** Malayalam star Sanju Samson smashed a brilliant century to lead India D to a commanding total of 349 in their first innings of the Duleep Trophy third-round match against India B.
Samson, who had been left out of the initial squad for the tournament, got a chance due to an injury to Ishan Kishan and made the most of it. He scored 106 runs off just 101 balls, hitting 12 fours and three sixes before being dismissed by Navdeep Saini.
This innings was a strong response to critics who had questioned his form.
The India D innings also saw contributions from Abhinay Easwaran (13) and Suyash Prabhudessai (16) before they were dismissed.
Meanwhile, in another match, India C are struggling to chase down India A’s first innings score of 297. India C have lost four wickets for 99 runs, with Babar Indrajith (20) and Abhishek Porel (39) currently at the crease.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for 17 runs.
