Thu Sep 19 18:07:42 UTC 2024: ## Jaiswal’s Resilience and Ashwin-Jadeja Partnership Rescue India in Chennai Test

**Chennai, India:** India’s opening Test against Bangladesh in Chennai witnessed a thrilling day of cricket, with the first session seeing a strong bowling performance from the visitors, followed by a remarkable comeback from the hosts.

Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud, in particular, troubled the Indian batting lineup, taking early wickets of captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, reducing India to 34/3 within the first 10 overs.

However, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stood firm, showcasing his resilience and battling through a challenging spell. He formed a crucial 62-run partnership with Rishabh Pant, helping India avoid a collapse. Jaiswal’s half-century, his first in Test cricket, came amidst tough conditions and praiseworthy bowling from Mahmud, who finished with four wickets.

“The wicket was a bit helpful initially, and the weather was cloudy. We were trying to play safe,” said Jaiswal, acknowledging the difficult start. He also praised Mahmud’s bowling but highlighted the importance of identifying loose balls for scoring opportunities.

“He bowled well, but he also gave us loose balls to score on,” Jaiswal said. “We were talking about using our feet and finding those loose balls to make a partnership.”

The day ended on a high for India thanks to a record-breaking partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The duo remained unbeaten at stumps, adding a mammoth 195 runs to take India to 339/6 at the end of Day 1. Ashwin’s century and Jadeja’s 86* proved crucial in turning the tide of the match after a shaky start.

With Ashwin and Jadeja’s partnership setting the tone, India will look to build on this momentum and capitalize on the strong finish to Day 1. The focus will be on maintaining their composure and carrying the momentum into the remaining days of the match.
