**Chennai, India:** Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud delivered a sensational performance on Day 1 of the first Test against India in Chennai, dismissing India’s star batsmen Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli within the first hour of play.
Mahmud, making his mark in the longer format after a successful white-ball career, struck first in the fifth over, trapping Rohit Sharma LBW for 5. Two overs later, he sent back Gill for a duck, caught behind by Litton Das. Mahmud then claimed the big wicket of Kohli, who edged a delivery to Das for just 6 runs.
The 24-year-old, who made his Test debut against Sri Lanka earlier this year, has been a revelation for Bangladesh. He impressed with a five-wicket haul in his debut Test series against Pakistan and has already taken 14 wickets in three Tests at an average of 25.
India, despite the early setbacks, managed to recover somewhat thanks to a 54-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal (37*) and Rishabh Pant (33*). They went into lunch at 88/3.
The first session saw a strong bowling performance from Bangladesh, with Mahmud’s spell proving decisive. The match remains keenly contested, with India hoping to recover from the early losses and Bangladesh aiming to capitalize on their momentum.
