**Chennai:** The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) plays a crucial role in filling positions within the state government. In addition to conducting well-known exams like Group I, II, and IV, the TNPSC also oversees departmental examinations, providing a pathway for government employees to climb the career ladder.

These exams, held across various departments, offer qualified candidates a chance to move into higher positions within their respective fields. In some instances, the exams even open doors to positions in other departments or organizations.

The selection process for departmental exams is rigorous, utilizing a combination of objective type tests, descriptive tests, and interviews. Candidates must achieve minimum qualifying marks to be considered for promotion.

The TNPSC conducts written exams over nine days, divided into two shifts. Objective type tests, conducted either online or offline, span five days and nine sessions. Descriptive type tests, which can account for 20 to 100 percent of the final score, are held over four days and eight sessions.

To register for departmental examinations, aspirants must visit the TNPSC’s official portal and provide their Employee Number, along with a registration fee of Rs 30 and an examination fee of Rs 200 per test.
