Wed Sep 18 03:00:57 UTC 2024: ## Ohtani Moves Closer to Historic 50-50 Season in Dodgers Loss

MIAMI, FL – Despite a 11-9 loss to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night, Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani continued his historic season, moving closer to becoming the first player in Major League Baseball history to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season.

Ohtani launched his 48th home run of the season in the third inning, sending a Darren McCaughan pitch soaring into the second deck of LoanDepot Park. With his 48th stolen base already under his belt, Ohtani needs just two more of each to reach the milestone.

Only two players in MLB history have achieved at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season: Barry Bonds and Brady Anderson. Ohtani’s remarkable feat would make him the first to accomplish it in a single season.

While recovering from Tommy John surgery, Ohtani has been on fire at the plate, slashing .287/.372/.611 with 87 extra-base hits and 359 total bases. This, coupled with his impressive base-running skills, makes him a strong contender for his third MVP award.

The Dodgers, despite the loss, remain comfortably in first place in the NL West with a record of 89-62. They are on track to make the playoffs for the 12th consecutive year.
