**KINGSTON, JAMAICA** – The University of the West Indies (UWI) will recognize thirteen distinguished individuals with honorary degrees at its upcoming graduation ceremonies across its five campuses in October and November 2024.

The honorees represent diverse fields, including advocacy and activism, medicine, tourism and culture, sport, business, education, science, and the music industry.

The Five Islands Campus will hold its ceremony on October 12th, awarding honorary degrees to:

* Sir Curtly Ambrose (Antigua and Barbuda) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for contributions to cricket.
* Ambassador Dr. W. Aubrey Webson (Antigua and Barbuda) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for human rights advocacy.
* Dame Susan Dilys Dougan (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for public service and work in education.
* Sir Trevor Hassell (Barbados) – Doctor of Science (DSc) for contributions to medicine.
* Elton Deighton Elombe Mottley (Barbados) – Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for contributions to the development of culture and the arts.
* Ralph Taylor (Barbados) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for work in the tourism sector.

The St. Augustine Campus will host ceremonies from October 24th to 26th, awarding honorary degrees to:

* Dr. Maniram Ragbir (Trinidad and Tobago/Britain) – Doctor of Science (DSc) for work as a plastic/reconstructive surgeon.
* Dr. Patricia Rodney (Guyana) – Doctor of Science (DSc) for work as a medical practitioner and human rights defender.
* Donald Anderson (Jamaica) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for work as an entrepreneur/market researcher/sport administrator.
* Monte Blake (Jamaica) – Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for pioneering work in music.
* Courtney Campbell (Jamaica) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for work as an entrepreneur/philanthropist.
* Dr. Conrad Douglas (Jamaica) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for contributions to the development of the bauxite industry.
* Kirani James (Grenada) – Doctor of Laws (LLD) for excellence in Athletics.

The UWI’s recognition of these individuals highlights their exceptional achievements and contributions to their respective fields and to the wider Caribbean region.
