United Airlines has announced a groundbreaking partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink to provide complimentary, high-speed Wi-Fi to passengers across its entire fleet, starting in late 2025. This initiative will make United the first airline to offer Starlink’s satellite-powered internet on a large scale.
Passengers will enjoy seamless internet access from gate to gate, allowing them to stream movies, browse social media, play online games, and more. Starlink’s technology ensures reliable, low-latency internet, similar to the quality experienced on the ground. This will be particularly beneficial for United’s extensive transatlantic and transpacific flight networks, offering connectivity even over traditionally hard-to-reach areas.
“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do onboard a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” said Scott Kirby, United’s CEO.
The new service will also benefit United’s crew members, enabling them to stay connected and access necessary tools even in remote locations.
This partnership further solidifies United’s commitment to technological advancements and improving the customer experience. The airline has already implemented other innovative features like real-time text updates and automatic rebooking assistance.
The rollout of free Starlink Wi-Fi is expected to be phased, with initial testing beginning in early 2025. This move positions United at the forefront of inflight connectivity advancements and sets a new standard for passenger experience in the aviation industry.
