Wed Sep 18 14:13:54 UTC 2024: ## “Hat Lady” Convicted for 171st Time: Northumbria Police Secure Toughest Injunction Against Serial Shoplifter

**Cramlington, Northumberland** – A notorious shoplifter known as “Hat Lady” has been handed a tough new injunction after her 171st conviction. Tanya Liddle, a 43-year-old from Newcastle, has been a thorn in the side of retailers for years, racking up a staggering 150 shoplifting convictions alone.

Liddle is infamous for her elaborate use of hats to disguise herself while stealing from stores. Shocking CCTV footage captured her sporting an oversized hat as she brazenly walked out of a TX Maxx store with £1,500 worth of designer bags on April 24th.

Following a determined effort by Northumbria Police, Newcastle Civil Court issued a stringent civil injunction against Liddle last Thursday. This is believed to be the toughest restriction ever imposed on a repeat offender by the force.

The injunction bans Liddle from entering all stores in the North East except for a designated pharmacy, supermarket, and clothing store. Any violation of this order could result in her imprisonment.

Inspector Patrick Hannon expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting Liddle’s history of repeated offenses and the impact on the retail community.

“We hope this ruling sends a clear message to other shoplifters that their behaviour will not be tolerated,” Inspector Hannon stated. “We will continue to take action and bring effective justice against prolific offenders.”

This news offers reassurance to the public, with Northumbria Police vowing to act swiftly against any future violations of the injunction.
