Wed Sep 18 03:16:17 UTC 2024: ## Trump Calls for More Security Personnel After Second Apparent Assassination Attempt

**West Palm Beach, FL** – Former President Donald Trump has reiterated his call for increased security personnel, claiming that his security detail has long requested more manpower. This comes after a second apparent assassination attempt against him while he was playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump, speaking with Fox News host Sean Hannity, stated that the need for more personnel is a “weakness” in his security detail. “We have long requested more people — more men and women — but more people. And because, you know, we have rallies [of] 50–60,000 [people]. In New Jersey, we had 107,000 people show up. There’s never been anything like it, and we have long requested more people. That’s true. That’s the weakness. If there’s a weakness, I really think that’s the weakness,” he said.

The incident occurred on Monday, September 16th, when a suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly attempted to assassinate Trump while hiding in the bushes along the golf course. Routh was apprehended by law enforcement after being spotted by a Secret Service agent who opened fire, forcing him to flee.

Acting Director of the U.S. Secret Service, Ronald Rowe, Jr., confirmed that the agency has been increasing assets to an already enhanced security posture for Trump since the first assassination attempt two months ago.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) have introduced bipartisan legislation seeking to grant both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris the same level of USSS resources as President Biden.

Despite the unsettling events, Trump expressed gratitude for the quick actions of his Secret Service detail, who swiftly removed him from the golf course after shots rang out. He also praised the efficiency of law enforcement in apprehending the suspect.

“Frankly, I think the Secret Service did a great job, and they got me out of there quickly. And they then went after him [Routh], and they were lucky enough to have somebody that took the license plate, which was genius, and they nabbed him on the highway. But it was… it was another day,” Trump told Hannity. “It was very interesting. I want to get… we want to get to business. We want to get to the business of running the country.”

Routh has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and having a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
