Wed Sep 18 01:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Sims 4 to Continue, No Sims 5 in Sight, as EA Focuses on Updates and New Features

**San Francisco, CA – September 17, 2024** Electronic Arts has announced that there are no plans for a Sims 5 at this time, opting instead to continue releasing updates and expansions for The Sims 4. The decision comes after a decade of dedicated players investing in their Sims 4 worlds and gameplay, and reflects a focus on providing ongoing support for the current game.

Rumors surrounding EA’s Project Rene, which some speculated was a codename for Sims 5, have been dispelled. Project Rene will be a separate project, offering free-to-play gameplay with both single-player and multiplayer options. While friends can play together, the game will not be an MMO like The Sims Online.

This decision to forgo Sims 5 is partly due to the challenges of continually adding new content to a game with extensive existing code. While new expansions and packs can bring exciting features, they also risk introducing bugs and glitches, as seen with the recent Wedding Stories update.

However, EA is introducing “Creator Kits,” a new system that allows Sims players to sell their custom content through the EA store. This will enable creators to monetize their work officially, expanding the community’s creative possibilities.

Meanwhile, fans of the franchise can also look forward to a live-action Sims movie. Directed and co-written by Kate Herron (Loki, Sex Education, The Last of Us) and produced by Margot Robbie (Barbie, The Suicide Squad), the movie is currently in early stages of development with few details released.

The Sims 4 is available on Windows PC, macOS, PS4, and Xbox One.
