**STOCKHOLM** – Sweden’s Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard and Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer were forced to return to Stockholm on Wednesday after their plane experienced a technical malfunction while en route to Turkey. The incident resulted in the postponement of a crucial security meeting with Turkish officials, which was scheduled to be the first since Sweden’s NATO membership was approved in January.
The meeting was intended to address the security pact agreed upon to ensure Ankara’s support for Stockholm’s NATO accession. Turkey had previously delayed Sweden’s bid for over a year due to concerns regarding Sweden’s stance on groups and individuals it considers terrorists, as well as an arms embargo that was later lifted.
Swedish officials confirmed that the aircraft crew and passengers were not in immediate danger and that a new date for the meeting will be determined soon.
