Former England and Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who passed away last month at the age of 76, will not have his ashes scattered at his beloved Lake Fryken.
Eriksson, in a poignant moment from his Amazon documentary, expressed his desire to have his ashes dispersed in the lake, a place he described as “home.” However, local authorities have reportedly refused permission for the family to fulfill his last wish.
Eriksson’s agent, Bo Gustavsson, confirmed the news, stating that the family has been “not allowed” to scatter his ashes in Lake Fryken. The family has since withdrawn their application and will instead inter Eriksson’s remains in an urn at a private site.
Despite this setback, Eriksson’s hometown of Torsby will still pay a unique tribute to the football legend. Plans are underway for a bronze statue, the exact size of Eriksson, complete with his real suit and shoes. The statue, which will be heated, is expected to be completed in November.
The artist responsible for the statue has drawn inspiration from Eriksson’s time with the England national team, creating a lasting memorial that will allow fans to touch and remember the iconic manager.
