Wed Sep 18 13:58:00 UTC 2024: ## Square Enix Disappointed with Sales of Latest Final Fantasy Games

**Tokyo, Japan – September 18, 2024:** Despite critical acclaim, Square Enix has revealed that the recent releases of Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have fallen short of the company’s sales expectations. The company attributed the shortfall to potential cannibalization between the two titles, released just eight months apart within the same fiscal year.

While no specific sales figures were released, Square Enix President Takashi Kiryu suggested that the close release window may have negatively impacted both games. He also noted that both titles were PlayStation 5 exclusives, potentially limiting their reach.

Final Fantasy 16, released in June 2023, only received a PC port earlier this week. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, released in February 2024, remains a PlayStation exclusive.

Despite the disappointing sales, Kiryu assured investors that Square Enix will be focusing on a more curated game release schedule over the next three years to avoid future cannibalization. He also reiterated the company’s commitment to improving profitability.

With both games receiving rave reviews, the reasons behind the sales shortfall remain unclear. The company’s future plans, including potential multi-platform releases, will be watched closely.
