**Lake Charles, LA** – Southern University’s tight ends, Dupree Fuller and Jermaine Minor, are proving to be key contributors in the Jaguars’ offensive scheme, despite the team’s 33-15 loss to Jackson State on Saturday.
The duo has combined for 17 receptions, 227 yards and two touchdowns this season, showcasing their skills and athleticism. Fuller, in his third season, caught three passes for 22 yards against Jackson State, while Minor, a transfer from Arkansas Tech, secured his first career touchdown with a 16-yard reception.
Head coach Terrence Graves has expressed his admiration for the tight ends, crediting their success to the guidance of their position coach, former Alcorn State head coach Fred McNair. McNair, a former college quarterback, emphasizes the importance of the tight end position and has instilled confidence in the duo.
“They are two of the best tight ends in the country, hands down,” Graves said. “They have the size and speed, ball skills, they can block, they’re physical. I said we were going to use 11 and 12 personnel, throw it to the tight ends. Those guys have done a great job. Coach McNair has done a great job getting them ready.”
Fuller, who overcame a torn labrum injury last season, is now fully recovered and demonstrating his athleticism and strength on the field. Minor, though relatively smaller than most tight ends, makes up for it with his aggression and determination.
Both players continue to improve, especially in their blocking abilities. Graves believes that with further development, Minor could become even more dominant with an increase in weight.
While the Jaguars’ victory eluded them in Saturday’s game, the strong performance of their tight ends offers a glimmer of hope for the team’s future. With Fuller and Minor leading the way, Southern University’s offense is poised to continue its development and pose a threat to opponents in the coming games.
