Wed Sep 18 02:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Ryan Murphy to Explore the Horrors of Ed Gein in New True Crime Series

Following the success of “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” prolific producer Ryan Murphy has announced his next true crime project: a series about notorious serial killer Ed Gein. While promoting his upcoming “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” on Netflix, Murphy surprised the audience with the casting of British actor Charlie Hunnam, best known for his role in “Sons of Anarchy,” to portray the infamous “Butcher of Plainfield.”

Gein, who gained notoriety in the 1950s, admitted to killing two women in Wisconsin and is suspected of other murders. He also famously exhumed bodies from graveyards and kept their remains as trophies. His story has inspired numerous fictionalized accounts, including Leatherface in the 1974 horror classic “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

While details about Murphy’s planned drama are scant, the project is already generating controversy. Gein’s 86-year-old father reportedly expresses concern about the renewed attention on his son’s crimes. Despite the controversy, fans of true crime and Murphy’s work are eagerly anticipating the release of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” on Netflix this Thursday.

Actor Cheyenne Jackson, who attended the premiere, praised the series on Instagram, calling it “entertaining, thought-provoking, and riveting.” He particularly highlighted the performances and the meticulous recreation of the late 1980s setting.

With Murphy’s penchant for tackling dark and controversial subjects, his next project promises to be another captivating and disturbing exploration of the human capacity for evil.
