Wed Sep 18 01:01:00 UTC 2024: ## Prince George Emerges as Canadian Leader in Sustainable Energy

**VANCOUVER, BC – September 17, 2024** – Prince George, British Columbia, is making significant strides in sustainable energy, according to Mayor Simon Yu, who spoke at a Canadian Carbon Solutions Coalition (CCSC) reception today.

The Mayor highlighted the city’s involvement in the $900 million H2 Gateway initiative, a project supported by the Canada Infrastructure Bank, which aims to establish hydrogen production plants and refuelling stations in three BC communities, including Prince George. “Hydrogen is the fuel of the future, and Prince George is proud to be at the forefront of this transition,” Mayor Yu stated. “This project is not only a significant step in reducing carbon emissions, but it will also create new jobs and economic opportunities for our community.”

Mayor Yu also stressed the importance of collaboration between governments, industry, and First Nations in driving innovation in carbon solutions. “We need to come together to create a sustainable future,” he said.

Further emphasizing Prince George’s commitment to sustainability, Mayor Yu announced that the city will host the BC Natural Resources Forum (BCNRF) from January 14-16, 2025. The BCNRF, the largest resource conference in Northern BC, will focus on carbon solutions and explore innovative ways to reduce carbon footprints while ensuring sustainable growth.

The CCSC, a coalition committed to advancing carbon capture, transport, storage, and utilization technologies across Canada, hosted a series of sessions earlier in the day featuring representatives from various organizations leading the charge in carbon solutions innovation.

The CCSC’s efforts are aligned with the global stocktake at COP28, which recognized carbon abatement, capture, storage, and removal as crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions globally.

The CCSC and Prince George’s initiatives demonstrate Canada’s commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable energy solutions and underscore the importance of collaborative efforts in the fight against climate change.
