A mother of four has described her terror after a firework was pushed through the letterbox of her home in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire, causing a loud bang and leaving her children shaken.
Kerrian Bott, 34, was woken by the sound of the firework exploding inside her house, which she described as sounding like a gunshot. Security footage from her doorbell camera shows a man approaching the house and appearing to knock on the door before, ten minutes later, pushing the firework through the letterbox and running off.
Bott was thankful that the incident did not result in a fire, despite causing damage to the skirting board. Her children, aged between three and 14, were left terrified by the incident.
Leicestershire Police are investigating the incident, which occurred on September 17 at 1:30 am. No injuries were reported, and while the firework caused minor fire damage, no arrests have been made.
“As soon as I heard it, I instantly jumped up,” Bott told Leicestershire Live. “I could smell something, a burning smell, it took me a minute to realize [it was a firework].”
The incident has prompted concern among residents in the community. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with their investigation.
