**KOTA BHARU:** The Kelantan State Health Department is urging residents returning from high-risk countries, including African nations like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to notify them to facilitate monitoring and prevent the spread of monkeypox, or mpox.
Datuk Dr Zaini Husin, the department’s director, said they are working closely with the Immigration Department to monitor individuals arriving from these countries. Monitoring is also conducted at the state’s border checkpoints, including the ICQS at Rantau Panjang and Bukit Bunga.
While no mpox cases have been reported in Kelantan, Dr Zaini stressed the importance of public cooperation. He urged residents who have travelled to high-risk countries or have been exposed to individuals with mpox to inform the State Health Department immediately.
Although Thailand is currently not classified as a high-risk country, the Health Ministry reported a positive mpox case in the country on Tuesday (Sept 17). The patient is a local man who exhibited symptoms including fever, sore throat, and cough. A rash began to appear the following day.
