Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, despite not playing in Sunday’s thrilling Chiefs-Bengals matchup, took to his podcast “The Edge” to voice his thoughts on the game’s officiating. While acknowledging the controversial calls went both ways, Parsons believes the Chiefs ultimately benefited more from the referees’ decisions.
One particularly contentious call came late in the fourth quarter as the Chiefs were driving for the win. On a crucial 4th & 16 play, Mahomes’ pass to Rashee Rice was ruled incomplete. However, officials flagged Cincinnati’s Daijahn Robinson for early contact with Rice, gifting the Chiefs a critical first down. The drive ultimately ended with Harrison Butker’s game-winning 51-yard field goal.
However, Parsons also highlighted a play where Cincinnati receiver Ja’Marr Chase pulled down Kansas City’s Trent McDuffie, leading to a penalty against McDuffie. Despite this, the Bengals were able to capitalize on the drive and score points.
While Parsons’ comments sparked debate, he maintains he’s simply expressing his opinion and doesn’t expect his words to generate significant controversy. He told reporters earlier this season, “I don’t think no one really cares about what I’m doing on a Monday afternoon when I’m at home with my kids. So, why would they care if I’m on Xbox? I think we all get our own free time. When y’all away from here, are y’all thinking about me at home? I would hope not.”
This instance marks one of the few times an active player has publicly criticized both fellow players and referees via social media. Despite his vocal stance, Parsons remains unconcerned by potential backlash, stating, “We all have opinions. We’re not going to agree to what everyone says. That’s life.”
