**SIOUX CITY, IA** – A Sioux City man who was shot by his younger sister earlier this month has been arrested and charged with second-degree burglary. Liem Wabashaw, 18, was booked into the Woodbury County Jail on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on September 9th at 1908 Helmer St. Police determined that Wabashaw, a former resident of the home, was not welcome and was shot after approaching his sister.

According to court documents, Wabashaw had been arrested and charged with assaulting his sister just 20 days prior to the shooting. He had since moved out of the home. On the day of the shooting, Wabashaw entered through a window to retrieve some of his belongings. Upon finding them damaged, he attempted to cut the power cords to the refrigerator and stove. He then entered his sister’s room and advanced towards her. Feeling threatened, the sister shot Wabashaw once in the neck.

Wabashaw’s injury was not life-threatening. He is also facing a separate charge of serious assault for the August 20th incident.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence in the community. The Sioux City Police Department continues to investigate the shooting.
