Thu Sep 19 02:30:41 UTC 2024: ## Messi Returns, but Inter Miami Stumbles to Draw Against Atlanta United

**ATLANTA, GA -** Lionel Messi made his return to the field for Inter Miami on Wednesday night, but his impact was limited in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Atlanta United. The Argentine superstar entered the match in the 61st minute after recovering from a right ankle ligament injury sustained in the Copa America final.

Messi nearly delivered the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute, but his shot was blocked by Atlanta goalie Brad Guzan. A subsequent attempt by Luis Suarez was also denied, keeping the score at 2-1 in favor of Inter Miami.

However, Atlanta United mounted a furious comeback in the closing stages. Aleksei Miranchuk scored a spectacular goal in the 84th minute, tying the game and forcing Inter Miami to settle for a draw.

Despite the missed opportunities, Messi showed flashes of his brilliance, making several runs toward the net and attempting to orchestrate the Miami offense. The limited minutes were a calculated move by coach Tata Martino to ensure Messi’s availability for the upcoming match against New York City FC.

Inter Miami had taken an early lead thanks to a goal by David Ruiz in the 29th minute. Leonardo Campana, who has become the club’s all-time leading scorer, added another goal in the 58th minute to give Miami a 2-0 advantage.

Atlanta United, however, pulled one goal back in the 56th minute through Saba Lobzhanidze, setting the stage for Miranchuk’s dramatic equalizer.

The draw puts a slight dent in Inter Miami’s bid for the Supporters’ Shield, as they are now just four points ahead of the second-place L.A. Galaxy.

Messi, who scored two goals and delivered an assist in his previous match against Philadelphia, will be looking to regain his scoring touch in the upcoming match against NYCFC.
