**Ilorin, Kwara State** – In a move aimed at boosting food production and ensuring food security, the Kwara State government has begun distributing 42,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers across the state. The fertilizer, a donation from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, will be provided free of charge to farmers.
The distribution ceremony was flagged off by Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, Senior Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Community Development. Olohungbebe stated that each farmer will receive at least three bags of fertilizer, with the distribution being carried out by Fertilizer Distribution Committees in each local government.
“This is a federal government intervention that complements the state government’s previous efforts in distributing fertilizers,” said Olohungbebe, highlighting that this is the fourth batch of fertilizers received by the state government. “We are committed to ensuring that these fertilizers reach the intended beneficiaries, the real farmers, and will be closely monitoring the distribution process.”
The 42,000 bags of fertilizer include 50 trucks of NPK and 20 trucks of Urea, totaling 70 trucks. This generous donation from the federal government is expected to significantly enhance agricultural output in Kwara State and contribute to the state’s food security goals.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), has expressed gratitude to the federal government for this support and expressed hope for continued collaboration in the future.
