**Lokoja, Kogi State:** Governor Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has announced the formation of a Flood Disaster Response Team to address the growing risk of flooding in the state. The decision comes in light of warnings from regulatory agencies that states along the Niger and Benue rivers are particularly vulnerable to flooding.
The team, chaired by Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, will coordinate the state’s flood response strategies and implement an action plan to minimize the impact of flooding on communities.
The statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, highlighted the devastating effects of past floods in Kogi State, a confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers.
The Flood Disaster Response Team will include key figures from the state government, including the State Auditor General, Commissioners of Health, Environment, Special Duties, Intergovernmental Affairs, Works, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, and Information and Communications.
The team will also include the Commissioners for Education, Water Resources, Women Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, Agriculture, the State Security Adviser, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on State Emergency Management Agency.
The Chief Servant of Kogi State, Governor Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo, is expected to officially inaugurate the team shortly.
