**East Rutherford, NJ** – Jets wide receiver Mike Williams is looking to build on his promising return in Week 1, hoping for a larger role in the team’s home opener against the Patriots on Thursday night. Despite exceeding his planned snap count in the Week 1 win over the Titans, Williams is feeling good and eager for more action.
Williams, who tore his ACL last season with the Chargers, was limited to just nine snaps in the season opener. However, he played 35 snaps against the Titans and was targeted just once, hauling in a key 19-yard catch on the game-winning drive.
“I was feeling good,” Williams said Tuesday. “I want to play, so I hope the same thing happens in this game and I can go out there and play.”
Head Coach Robert Saleh acknowledged Williams’ eagerness and said the team will continue to monitor his progress. “He feels really good…and he wants more and his body feels good so we’re gonna continue to give him the ball,” Saleh stated.
Despite the travel and increased snaps, Williams said he was pleasantly surprised to feel no swelling in his knee and felt “everything feels good.”
Williams’ presence adds depth to the Jets’ receiving corps, complementing star receiver Garrett Wilson. The veteran receiver is looking to return to his form with the Chargers, where he had two 1,000-yard seasons.
With the short week, Williams is focusing on staying mentally sharp while keeping his body rested. “You just gotta make sure you’re watching the film and getting the mental reps,” he said. “But, as far as the body, if you got a process and a plan that you stick to, you will feel comfortable throughout the season.”
As the Jets prepare for their home opener, all eyes will be on Williams as he looks to continue his comeback and contribute significantly to the team’s success.
