Thu Sep 19 11:28:26 UTC 2024: ## India Struggles Early, Ashwin and Jadeja Rescue Hosts on Day 1 of Bangladesh Test

**Chennai, India:** India’s return to Test cricket at home began with a shaky start as Bangladesh exploited early movement to dismiss the top order quickly. However, a magnificent century stand between veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja propelled the hosts to a respectable 285/6 at stumps on Day 1 of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Bangladesh, riding high on their historic series win in Pakistan, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hasan Mahmud, a pace sensation from the recent Pakistan series, delivered a dream start for the tourists, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in the first 10 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a young and promising batter, offered some early resistance, scoring a patient half-century before being dismissed for 56. The returning Rishabh Pant added a quick 39 runs, but the collapse continued as India found themselves struggling at 144/6.

Enter Ashwin and Jadeja. The duo, both renowned all-rounders, launched a counter-attack, putting on a record-breaking 180-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Ashwin, in particular, was in exceptional form, reaching his sixth Test century off just 105 balls. Jadeja, meanwhile, compiled a gritty 78* to end the day.

Bangladesh, despite a good start, will rue their inability to maintain the pressure throughout the day. They will be looking to bounce back on Day 2, hoping to restrict India’s total and put themselves in a strong position to win the first Test.
