Thu Sep 19 14:07:38 UTC 2024: ## India Recovers from Early Collapse, Ashwin and Jadeja Steer Hosts to 339/6
**Chennai, India:** India battled back from a shaky start, thanks to a mammoth 195-run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, to reach 339/6 at the end of day one in the first Test against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh, fresh off their 2-0 series victory in Pakistan, had the hosts on the ropes early. Hasan Mahmud claimed three wickets in the morning session, reducing India to a precarious 34/3. The early dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli put India on the back foot.
However, Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) provided a crucial respite, putting on a 62-run stand before Hasan broke the partnership.
But it was the seventh-wicket partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja that truly turned the tide of the match. Ashwin, who smashed his sixth Test century, remained unbeaten on 102 off 112 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes. Jadeja, on 86, is nearing his fifth Test century.
Ashwin credited the Chennai pitch, which he described as having “a bit of bounce and carry,” for allowing him to play aggressively. He also praised his partner Jadeja, saying that their partnership was crucial in turning the match in India’s favor.
Bangladesh will be hoping to regroup and make early inroads on day two, but with Ashwin and Jadeja at the crease, India will be confident of posting a competitive total.
