**Chennai, India** – India took control on Day 1 of the first Test match against Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. A dominant seventh-wicket partnership between R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja propelled India to a strong position, with Ashwin scoring a century and Jadeja reaching his half-century.

Ashwin, playing in his home city, notched his sixth Test century, his second in a row at Chepauk. He reached the milestone in style, taking two runs to reach 99 and then smashing a boundary to complete his ton. Jadeja, providing excellent support, reached his 50 with a single. The pair ended the day with an unbroken 179-run partnership, leaving India at 349/6.

Earlier in the day, India lost wickets at regular intervals after Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hasan Mahmud, the Bangladeshi fast bowler, was the pick of the bowlers, picking up three wickets in his opening spell. However, India recovered well thanks to a strong partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant before Ashwin and Jadeja took charge.

The day was also marked by some exciting shots, with Jadeja smashing a six over deep mid-wicket and Ashwin hitting a towering six over deep mid-wicket to bring up India’s 300 runs.

The match continues tomorrow, with India looking to build on their strong foundation and Bangladesh hoping to fight back against the dominant partnership.
