Thu Sep 19 04:19:26 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates Day 1 of First Test Against Bangladesh in Chennai

**Chennai, India:** India took control on the first day of the first test match against Bangladesh in Chennai, with the hosts ending the day on 1/1 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

The match, part of a two-test series, began at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bangladesh, fresh off a series win against Pakistan, looked to capitalize on the damp pitch, but India’s batsmen, led by captain Rohit Sharma and newcomer Yashasvi Jaiswal, held their ground.

Bangladesh captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, won the toss and opted to field first, citing the damp pitch and the opportunity for his pace bowlers to exploit the conditions. “It’s looking hard and it will be good for the fast bowlers in the first session,” he stated.

The match marks a historic return for Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who last played a test match against Bangladesh in December 2022, before a serious car accident sidelined him.

India, who hold a dominant 11-0-2 win-loss-draw record against Bangladesh in tests, enters the series as the favorites, but Bangladesh will be looking to upset the odds and make history.

The first test match will continue on Wednesday, with Bangladesh hoping to make a significant breakthrough on Day 2 and put pressure on the Indian batting lineup.
