**Chennai, India:** India took control of the first Test match against Bangladesh on Tuesday, finishing Day 1 on a strong 339/6. The Indian team recovered from a shaky start, thanks to a crucial 195-run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
The day began with Bangladesh bowlers putting India on the back foot, dismissing Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) cheaply.
However, a solid half-century by Yashaswi Jaiswal (56) provided some stability. He was joined by KL Rahul for a brief partnership, but both fell to Bangladesh’s aggressive bowling attack.
Enter Ashwin and Jadeja. The duo launched a counter-attack, forging a massive partnership that saw Ashwin reach his sixth Test century (102 not out). Jadeja also played a crucial role, finishing the day on 86 not out.
Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets.
The first day belonged to India, who successfully navigated the initial setbacks and ended the day with a commanding lead. With a day of play remaining before the declaration, India is well-positioned to take an early lead in the two-match Test series.
