Thu Sep 19 13:08:38 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates Day 1 of First Test Against Bangladesh, Aswin & Jadeja Lead Resurgence

**Chennai:** India displayed resilience on Day 1 of the first Test match against Bangladesh, recovering from a shaky start to post a strong 339/6 at stumps. The day was marked by a remarkable century partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*), who helped India recover from a top order collapse.

The first two sessions saw a disappointing performance from the Indian batsmen, with Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) all falling cheaply. The team was reduced to 88/3 before lunch. The afternoon session saw a similar story, with Rishabh Pant (39) joining the list of early dismissals.

However, Yashaswi Jaiswal (56) and KL Rahul (16) offered some resistance, building a crucial partnership. Jaiswal, in particular, shone with an impressive half-century. After their dismissals, it was Ashwin and Jadeja who stepped up, stitching together a brilliant 195-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

Ashwin, who reached his sixth Test century, and Jadeja, with a well-crafted 86, batted with authority and ensured India ended the day in a commanding position.

Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four wickets. The visitors will need to find a way to break the Ashwin-Jadeja partnership on Day 2 if they are to stay in the contest.
