Thu Sep 19 16:09:15 UTC 2024: ## India Stumbles in First Test Against Bangladesh

**Dhaka, Bangladesh (Sep 19, 2024):** India’s batting lineup faced a humiliating collapse in the first Test against Bangladesh, succumbing to the relentless pressure from the home side’s bowlers. Bangladesh, winning the toss and electing to field first, exploited the Indian weakness masterfully.

Young pacer Hasan Mahmud, particularly, wreaked havoc, claiming the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in quick succession. While openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant steadied the ship momentarily, the early collapse put India on the back foot.

Despite a promising start after lunch, Jaiswal (59) and Pant (39) fell in quick succession, with veteran KL Rahul (16) also failing to contribute significantly. At stumps, India was reeling at 169/6, with Ravichandran Ashwin (13) and Ravindra Jadeja (7) at the crease.

The match started with a disastrous first over for India as Rohit Sharma (6) was dismissed by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. India lost their second wicket in the eighth over when Shubman Gill was caught by Liton Das. Despite the return of Virat Kohli after a brief hiatus, India was reeling at 34/3 by the end of the 9.2nd over.

The fightback by Jaiswal and Pant temporarily eased the pressure before Bangladesh’s bowlers struck again, leaving India in a precarious position at the end of the day.
